New Year's Eve 2009

Once again the forecast wasn't even close we got a whopping .5" and that is being generous.  They are calling for 3-5 " on one forecast and 4-8" on the other but as i mentioned before they have been wrong 90-95% of the time this winter.  I've got to get me one of the forecasting jobs, I at least can guess better than they have been with all of their fancy equipment for this area anyway.  This has been a rough year for many and hopefully 2010 will be better for everyone, with foolish laws changed and accountability from our leaders.  Happy New Year from the Trinity5 pack and many blessing for everyone in 2010.  Peace

Visions of Snowflakes Falling

With the New Year approaching I did some figuring on our present snow fall situation.  It was forecast to be a drier winter and it seems to have been so far.
Since the first snowfall in Oct we have received @ Trinity 148.25" or 12.35' of snow up to this morning, yet we have just less than 5' on our gauge.  Problem is that we received rain during that time also  which compacted and settled the snow.  The temps have been colder earlier than last year which has pulled moisture out of the snow especially for what we have now and even though it is firm there is 1-12" of POW on top of a base of almost 4'.  Some places have a slight crust that if broken you can be up to your thigh in POW  baby fine POW.  Last year at this time we already had 6-7' of POW with no bottom, lots of stuck sleds who just didn't use enough power for the conditions.
Hopefully the new year will bring with it much more snow than we have seen so far but then again I can't complain too much we have accumulated 12+ ' so far.
Peace, Blessings for the New Year  from the Trinity5 Pack

Well we got snow little over 1"

Well we finally woke up to some new snow but not what everyone was hoping for just a hair over 1" of fresh baby fine POW arrived overnight.  I am happy to say that it is still snowing at this time very small flakes and little accumulation.  Finally saw some other sledders yesterday saying there are areas of the trail out here that are icy but out here it's just POW, so get out there and work off some of the Christmas food you ate playing in the snow, it does a body good.  Peace

Bluebird Morning 6 degrees and No Snow

Blue skies and cold temps are helping out the snow around here, yet very few people have been this far all week maybe 3-5 sleds this far.  Seems everyone stays close to the snowpark and stay on the trails instead of getting to where the real snow is and having fun, too bad you don't know what you are missing.  Now get out and ride and play in the real snow not what you find in the first 5-7 miles but actually from Fish LK and most of all get off of the trails, snow is firm but POW at the same time, there is a base and so far just me and the dogs have really enjoyed it out here.  Peace

Christmas Morning 13 degrees and White Here

Merry Christmas to everyone, we are having a white Christmas here but no new snow this week, nice and crispy with the inversion keeping the clouds low but the mountains are peeking out.  These temps have made the snow really good around here anyway, get out and enjoy it and play hard so the food won't stay where not wanted, will report the next flakes we see.  Peace Everyone

0" of snow overnight

Well we finally got below 32 for the first night in about 4-5 days we are at 28 this morning and it is setting the snow up , not as sloppy as it was.  Nothing else really to report today, the snow is setting up nicely making it easier to get around for sure get out and enjoy it while you can, even the mushers should have good rides if they get away from the snow park and go further north, trail here is in great shape, not torn up like it probably is near the lake.  Peace

4" of New Snow Overnight

Good Morning we are still holding steady at 32 degrees and after snow/rain all day yesterday it finally became snow later in the afternoon with silver dollar size flakes at times some you could barely see.  Got up this morning to 4" of new fluffier but wet snow this morning and putting us back over 5' on the gauge.  I'd like the snow level to stay around 2000' instead of the 5000' it has been the last couple of days and bringing rain instead of snow.  Get out and enjoy it while we have it to enjoy it will do your body some good and definitely do your spirit some good.  Peace

No Snow

Good Morning it's a balmy 32 here this morning and just a light dusting of wet snow on things here.  I've got to get me a job as forecaster I'm much beter than these jokers that are wrong for this area 90% of the time.  I should have about 10' if you believe them yet only 5' on gauge, think I'll stick to watching the sky and animals instead much more accurate.  Overnight we did get .08" precipitation and for the month only .58" yet we got 33+" of POW this week, now that is some very dry snow.  I'll keep you updated and get out and enjoy the snow, might want to make sure you have your Gore-tex on though.  Peace

No Snow but .04" Precip overnight

Well after getting snow earlier this week the temps have gone up, overnight here was 32 a big change from last week with -3.  The POW we got is now a little wetter  but also compacting some making it somewhat firmer, on the gauge now we show 5'.  Get out and enjoy the snow while it is here we just aren't looking at getting much this next few days and warmer temps until Monday night when we should be in the lower 20's.  The road to Trinity was groomed on Wed night but not up to Phelps CK TH, you get  to make your won way up there and there is plenty of snow.  Peace

Just a Dusting of Wetter Snow

Good Morning it's 32 degrees and overnight we only got a dusting of wetter snow but nothing to dance about.  The snow was very dry and fluffy couldn't make a snowball type of POW great for snowmobiling or getting those face shots of POW while skiing.  The road to Trinity was groomed night before last and we ended up with 37 degrees yesterday and a warmest overnight  we have had in over a month which should help settle this snow some making it even better.  I'll keep you updated on what we get and the conditions as I know them.  Get out and enjoy this beautiful soft whiteness it'll make you feel young again.  Peace

13" of New POWder

Good Morning it's 27 degrees and we received 13" of new POWder so since Monday night we have received 33.25" of new Powder here at Trinity and we are showing approximately 5.5' once again which is actually better than we did in Nov by 6".  There is a good base down now and the temps have been warmer the last couple nights.  This is what everyone was waiting for so quit waiting and get out and enjoy this beautiful snow, it'll do your body good.  Not sure about the grooming at this point I know that as of yesterday afternoon nothing here had been groomed except what we have been dragging around here just to make it easier to get around.  Peace

8.5 " Overnight

WWell after no snow for almost 2 weeks we finally have started getting some again, got up to 8.5" of new POW since noon yesterday when it started again and the 10" yesterday we've got a new 18.5" of new fluffy white snow on the ground, got to make first tracks yesterday coming home and the snow sure made the trip home much nicer than the ride out where I was having to search for any snow to ride on instead of the ice everywhere.  Get out and enjoy this snow, on the gauge we are showing  about 4.75' today so get out and have some fun it'll do you some good.  Peace

Snow finally arrived here

Sorry for being late getting this out but we got about 10" overnight and there is now snow all the way to the snow  park unlike the icy conditions I went out on yesterday.  Was nice making first tracks coming home earlier today and made the ride much easier on my body, lots of face shots & leg shots on the ride home, if this keeps up thee will have enough to finally start grooming just don't know when at this point.  Get out and enjoy this wonderful POW it does a body good.  Peace

1.75" of new snow

Well after almost 2 weeks without snow we finally got a little bit overnight woke up to 1.75" of new Pow, more is supposed to be on the way though.  STill not enough for them to start grooming I don't think that is unless something big happened near Fish LK last night anyway.  I'll keep you posted with whatever we get snow wise or any other conditions you might be interested in.  Get out and enjoy the snow and keep doing the snow dance, fire up those sleds and get ready to ride.  Peace

Still looking for snow

This is the first morning above 0 we have had all week which was nice but still no snow since the Tues before Thanksgiving, that is supposed to change this week though and I will keep you updated. We still have 3.5' of snow here and with these extreme cold temps the snow is becoming POW once again just have to break up the top layer of frozen snow, in some places you can punch through up to 1' so that is a good thing just have to be careful.  Will update once we have any new snow to report, the road i s still open but not groomed at this point due to lack of snow down at the Fish Lake end of the road.  Get out and enjoy what we do have though and make it a great day. Peace

Finally Something to report

This morning it is 22 degrees and supposed to get colder as the day progresses, we do have .5" of snow this morning after nothing since the Tues before Thanksgiving, but well below the forecast of 1-3".  The snow on the trail is very hard until you get to Basalt TH, out to Chikamin, not what high powered sleds need for sure unless it is water cooled of course.  Here we still have between 3.5-4' of very hard frozen snow, while at Chikamin is between 12-18" and not sure what is further south at this time.  You don't need snowshoes to go anywhere at this time, while up at the dam about 900' above us still has lots of nice POW with a crust but you can definitely punch through occasionally.  Get out and enjoy it before it gets really cold this evening and first part of the week, that is if the forecast are correct which so far this season are right 3 days out of the last 1.5 months, I need that job getting paid for being wrong 15:1.  Peace
