Season drawing to a close, Sorta...

We went into town for 3 days on Monday and hoped to get some of the snow Steven's Pass got during that time, maybe 2-3" only though. Coming in yesterday the lower portion of the road here was rough due to lots of traffic while snow as very weeet, not bad but used none the less, from Basalt on to Trinity it was smooth as glass with just about 1" of new snow on top. We made the first tracks on it and it was very nice to come home like that. The grooming for the year is over I've been told, so now snow is melting at Fish Lk sno-park but not bad yet, it is good from there just rough to Chikamin Flats stay out of others tracks and it is nice though. Get out and enjoy it while you can it's getting warmer during the day but overall the snow is still on great shape. Get on those sleds and ride or pack your skis and come enjoy the beautiful virgin ski runs we know of, it'll so your body & spirit good. Peace

Bluebird Day

It's a Bluebird morning and 23 degrees, no new snow but the snow is frozen hard from the latest rain, it can be broken through so be careful. The road was groomed for the last time of the season all the way but this morning you will need ice scratcher's on sleds. Get out and enjoy the sunshine, mountains and snow it'll do you good. Peace

Very Wet Snow

Good Morning it's 43 degrees the sun is shining after an overnight low of 33. The new snow that we got is now very wet due to almost 1" of precip yesterday. The snow is compacting but until it settles it's easy to posthole while walking in the deep snow with or without snowshoes but the snowshoes do help. There is still plenty of snow to play in and the snow in the trees is gone so no worries about snowbombs hitting you while you are out enjoying the snow. This is a good time to get that sled out and go play just be prepared to get a little wet, and enjoy the beautiful mountains, it'll do you good. Peace

Now we get rain

After receiving another 1.5" of snow yesterday before it started to warm up the overnight temp only got down to 31 and formed a crust on the snow that had fallen, it has now started to rain lightly but enough to soften up the snow. This will help to compact it down and already had compacted to below 7' as of yesterday. The road out here was groomed on Monday night and there was 3-4" of new snow on top of the grooming and only a couple of sleds had been on it as of yesterday. Today it is already 32.5 and climbing so we are back into the thaw/freeze cycle possibly, we'll have to see. The snow in the trees is melting quickly but overall we are in pretty good shape we still have more twice the snow we had just last Friday.
Except for the rain causing sloppy conditions things are good , just have to see how much settling the snow does with the next couple of days since rain is forecast through Friday. The good thing is the water content of the snow even before this latest snowstorm was at 35-37% density which is good for spring runoff. Get out and make the best of it just take something to dry off with. Peace

I can't believe it snowing!!!

Good Morning it's 27.8 degrees and we have gotten another 13" of snow since yesterday giving us a total of 3.6' of new snow since Sat. According to the calender it's St. Patty's day but there is only white no green here. After not getting any significant snow for over 6 weeks we have doubled our snow total in 72 hours, winter is hangin' around which is what we have needed to not have such a bad fire season this summer. Getting this much snow so fast isn't necessarily good for avi conditions, slides will happen since it is falling faster than it can bond. Time to break out the big sleds that haven't had this kind of snow since early Jan to play in. The groomers did groom all the way out here in early am hours still has another 3-4" on top since then. Waist deep POW where it hasn't been groomed or compacted from lots of use. Break out the avi gear and snowshoes get ready to enjoy POW and remember POWer is your friend in POWder.
Peace

It's a POWder Day

Good Morning it's 26 degrees and in the past 22 hours we have received 24" of wonderful, white POW. I walked into waist deep powder this morning just to see how it was in areas not groomed here and it's deep and wonderful. If you are a sledhead or skier/snowboarder grab the fat ones and get out and enjoy the best snow we have had here all winter. We have a 3.75' base and 6.5' on our gauge for the first time all winter which isn't compacted yet. There were lots of sledder's out yesterday while it was puking snow over 2"+ most of the day so the road was used and packed by sleds but not formally groomed since last Fri night. This is what we have been looking for to salvage the rest of winter and after a very light Jan/Feb snow we have received over 3' of snow in the last 16 days. Don't put those sleds or skis up just yet. For those performance sledder's no ice scratchers needed now, just remember Power is your friend in deep POWder. Get out and enjoy this new snow and the mountains, it does a body and sprit good.

Good Morning it's 29 degrees and after some very cold temps this week it seems we are now warming up a bit but there is moisture in the air. It started ssnowing overnight and is continuing to snow this morning, the snow is in good shape and the road to Trinity was just groomed the other night is smooth and fast without being as icy as it has been the past few weeks. Overcast skies should be with us all day but the snow is great for getting out and playing and enjoying the mountains. Get out and enjoy the beauty and enjoy it. Peace

Another beautiful day

Good Morning, it's 8.8 degrees at 7am, we have 2-3" of windblown POW depending on where you go, road was groomed Sat night and yet with the new snow it's not as icy as has been lately. The new snow and older snow is bonding nicely so no slide problems so far. We've gotten almost 2' of total new snow in last 2 weeks even though we haven't gotten the really big dumps other places have experienced lately, what we have gotten is very nice. Supposed to be sunny the rest of the week wo will have to see what that does to the snow. With daylight savings now mornings start a little early but evenings now last longer and you can ride or ski until after 7pm. Get out and enjoy the beautiful mountains and snow, it'll do you good. Peace

4-6" of POW and Blizzard whiteout conditons

This morning it was 10 degrees and we had between 4-6" of beautiful POW since yesterday morning around 10am when the snow started lightly falling. By 12:30 the snow was blowing so hard you could not see 5' in front of you so hard I had 3" of blown snow on my covered porch by 4pm. It started clearing somewhat around 3:30 but only for 1.5 hours long enough to make 3 ski-tow runs and downhill runs from settling tank. It picked up again just as Ivan started his last downhill run, so hard I could not clear my goggles fast enough. There is anywhere from 8-18" of POW depending on where you are here, the new snow is bonding very well to the older snow reducing chances of slides with the new snow. This morning we got another .5" in just over 1 hour while Ivan was skiing a new run, great condition for skiing or sledding, the road was groomed last night so should be very fast with little traffic all day. Get out and enjoy the mountains and this beautiful fresh POW. Peace

No Snow but plenty of Sunshine

Good morning it was 9 degrees this morning for the low and no new snow after yesterday afternoon. Today lots of sunshine and 16 degrees at 9am. With the lack of moisture in the snow yesterday there was some hoar frost but still soft and POW. The road to wasn't groomed last night but it is still in good shape after being groomed last Thur, so if you have been looking for a POW to go ride in this is it, no ice scratchers needed. A great day to enjoy the mountains and the snow, get out and enjoy it. Peace

6.25" of POW over night

Good Morning it is 29 degrees and we had 6.25" of POWder overnight which is almost 10" this week alone, the most new snow we have had in almost 1,5 months, it started out fairly wet but got cold enough to dry it out a little. Perfect for snowmobiling or getting in some backcountry skiing in places no one else goes. Not sure if they groomed last night or not but either way the road is in good shape from being groomed almost every week, just won't be so hard with the new snow on top of it. Grab your skis, fire up the sled and get out and enjoy this beautiful snow and the mountains I call home. Peace

I See Big Snowflakes Falling

Good Morning it's 32 degrees and overcast, no new snow overnight but at 7:55am the sky opened up and looked like rain but quickly turned to Big snowflakes and they are wet and moderately heavy to heavy. This is just what we need to help the poor snowpack out. We have just over 4' at the house gauge but yesterday we built a snow course and the avg depth of the snow 200 yds away was 55" with 3-4 icy crust below the snow, There is no wind and the snow is falling straight down and getting bigger. Get out and enjoy the beautiful mountains and snow. Peace

Appreciate your help

If you are reading these post about snow & trail conditions @ Trinity I would really appreciate it if you would become followers on Trinity Valley Vibes, that way I will know how many people are taking advantage of the information and that ya'll are interested in this information and the fact that it is linked to www.lakewenatcheeinfo.com snow report page. I want to know if it is worth me keeping this information up. Today we set up a snow course for taking measurements and this summer we will be having the Miner's ridge snow-tel station moved to Trinity for the most accurate and up to date snow conditons available for the Chiwawa River watershed. Thanks get out and enjoy the fresh snow. Peace

Yeah 3.75" of very wet snow

Good Morning it's 32 and has been snowing all night off and on and the temp never got lower than 31. We didn't get but a dusting overnight night before last and then it actually had slight rain & sleet before sunset. We've had almost 7" this weekend, not great but much better than we have been getting the last 6 weeks. It has snowed heavy at times and now is slacking off to very light. This is very wet snow packs easily when walking but should be great for snowmobiling and some skiing just will be a little slower. Road is still in good shape from Thur grooming and not many sledder's out this way this weekend. Get out and enjoy the beautiful white snow. Peace

Got 2" of new snow

Good Morning it's 29 degrees and we received 2" of new snow last night, it's currently overcast and snowing heavy wetter snow which is great, we need it. The snow is still in good shape you can still go anywhere, the trail was groomed Thur night and was very hard and fast the new snow will make riding better and keep snowmibiles cooled down. As always anyone coming out this way Coke and Chocolate ice cream is appreciated. Get out and enjoy the snow. Peace
